How do you get the people you lead to fall in love with their work?
Antonio Fernández Hernando:
I believe there are people who are self-motivated, who go through life with optimism—which I love—and there are others who feel totally discouraged and see everything as an effort or a punishment from some Catholic or Jewish commandment. The reality is that some people genuinely enjoy their work, and what I try to do is provide the means for them to enjoy it and to see that they are creating something: that we are helping a company go public, that it can list in Paris, that it can list in Madrid, that these are Spanish or Latin American companies. Some people find that motivating, while others see it as a nightmare. My challenge is to choose the ones who are motivated, not the ones who see it as a nightmare.
